Elaine Joan Schlechter (nee Braitman), loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother, passed away on October 16 after a brief illness. She was born on July 17, 1941 to Katherine (nee Nevison) and Abe Braitman in Philadelphia. She and her brother Len were very close. After she taught him rock dancing as a teenager, he became an enthusiastic lifelong dancer. She married the love of her life on August 7, 1960 after a whirlwind engagement. She and Myron raised two sons. When the boys began school, she started work on a college degree and then began a sales career in temporary help. She and Myron founded American Temporary Services, which she built into a successful firm with several offices. In 1993, she and Myron adopted a daughter, Jenia, to whom Elaine dedicated herself. After selling the business in 2005, she and Myron (with Jenia) moved to Florida. In retirement, she dedicated herself to writing about her family experiences and memories. She loved riding her bike through the neighborhood, dancing, and was an avid animal lover. She was an active volunteer as a poll worker and assisted in voter registration. She cherished her time with her children, grandchildren, and members of her extended family and friends. She is survived by Myron, her loving husband of 63 years, daughter Jenia (Claudia), sons David (Jessica) and Michael (Diana), brother Leonard Braitman (Cynthia Little), grandchildren Caitlin, Austin, Tessa, Brenna, and Pierce Schlechter, and Sophie, Dane, and Jack Schrodel, and innumerable relatives and friends whom she treasured and with whom she shared her wonderful life. Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services, Friday, 10:30 AM precisely at Goldsteins’ Rosenberg’s Raphael-Sacks, 6410 N. Broad St., Phila., PA. Interment will be in FL.
