Famed director Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment has issued an open casting call for a boy between the ages of 6 to 9 to star in the upcoming film The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara, according to DeLisi Creative. The boy should appear to look both Jewish and Italian; no acting experience is required.
Based on a true story, the movie is about a “6-year-old Jewish boy from Bologna who was reported to have been secretly baptized by a maid and deemed by the Catholic Church therefore to be Christian.” Pope Pius IX then decreed the boy couldn’t remain with his Jewish family and was seized by the Papal State, setting off a chain of events.
