Ivan Szeftel was named chair of the board of directors of JEVS Human Services. Prior to that, Szeftel, a retired financial services director, served as the board’s treasurer.
In addition to Szeftel’s appointment, JEVS added Laura Bessen and Denise Portner to the board.
Bessen most recently served as vice president, head of U.S. Medical at Bristol Myers Squibb.
Portner, senior vice president at SteegeThomson Communications, manages marketing and development communications programs for mission-driven organizations in health care, education, human services and the arts.
Three students from Springfield Township Middle School received awards in the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) Greater Philadelphia Section annual Holocaust Essay Contest. Prizes went to Emma Singer, Miles O’Rourke and Dan Matthews. A panel chaired by Evelyn Goldhammer read the essays and chose the winners.
