Philadelphia Mayor James F. Kenney has lent his support to the American Jewish Committee’s (AJC) Mayors United Against Anti-Semitism initiative, the AJC announced Thursday.

The statement  “affirms a core set of principles, including the condemnation of anti-Jewish hatred in all forms; rejection of the notion that anti-Semitic acts may never be justified by one’s view on the actions or existence of the State of Israel; declaration that anti-Semitism and any prejudices due to religious differences are inconsistent with core American values; and the belief that the promotion of mutual understanding and respect among all citizens is essential to good governance and democratic life.”

More than 300 U.S. mayors and municipal leaders have signed the initiative, along with 70 mayors from 20 European nations.

Also Thursday, Philadelphia Councilman-at-Large Allan Domb commended Kenney at a City Council meeting after introducing a resolution recognizing AJC and its initiative.

Kenney’s predecessor, Michael A. Nutter, had signed the statement before he left office.
