Lowell Lander, who spent 20 years working for Israel Bonds in Philadelphia, died Feb. 2 in Boynton Beach, Fla. He was 82.
Lander spent his last eight years at Israel Bonds as national director of trade union activities, with responsibilities for labor movement events and activities in the United States and Canada, according to a résumé supplied by his wife Madeline. His responsibilities included presentations and solicitations to state, city and union pension funds and the major corporations that worked with them.
Lander visited Israel more than 60 times in his career, leading delegations with leaders in the corporate, political and labor arenas.
His first event in Philadelphia with the Charming Shop Stores resulted in $9.5 million in bond sales, while his first event in Washington, D.C., with the United Food and Commercial Workers netted $12 million.
And a 50th anniversary event for Israel Bonds that honored the national AFL-CIO with the Israel Labor Award raised more than $100 million.
Prior to working for Israel Bonds, Lander spent time as a United Jewish Appeal field representative and as the acting regional director for its Florida region. He was a senior fundraiser for Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia for two years and helped develop the Bux-Mont Jewish Appeal, according to his résumé.
Lander is survived by his wife, Madeline; a sister, Arlene Lander; daughters Susan Lander and Fern Sandler; and two grandchildren.
