Jewish-owned Kismet Bagels, which began in May 2020 as a pop-up/wholesale business for Jacob and Alexandra Cohen to keep busy while out of work early in the pandemic, will open their first brick-and-mortar location at 113 E. Girard Ave. in Philadelphia on April 8.

The Cohens were featured in a November 2020 Jewish Exponent article.

The 540-square-foot space will feature takeout ordering and be open Wednesday through Sunday. The company will continue to wholesale bagel packs and schmears at various area businesses.

The shop will feature a fresh bread program with Sam McNamara making sourdough loaves. Pastry chef Erica Pais will provide fresh pastries daily as well as manage the shop. There will be drip coffee, grab-and-go items, rotating salads, various bagel sandwiches, loose bagels, loose bialys, schmears and spices.

“All of the people who came to work for us over the past two years have helped build this into a community where people are blossoming,” Jacob Cohen said. “We’re so excited to expand our business and allow more people who have been with us during the pandemic to come onboard full-time. This is a big step for us, and we are ready to finally open our doors.”
