Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Carl Lutz and Diplomatic Rescue in the Holocaust

March 30 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

The Mid-Atlantic – Eurasia Business Council is delighted to invite you to join the continuing series of events to recognize and celebrate the life and accomplishments of an often forgotten hero, Carl Lutz. His humanitarian action is considered the greatest civil rescue operation of Jews during the Holocaust. January 2022 will mark the 80th anniversary of Carl Lutz’s arrival in Hungary, followed by the great feat to save over 50,000 lives from the Holocaust during his tenure as vice-consul at the Swiss Embassy in Budapest.

We will host a virtual event on March 30, 2021, hybrid events on August 4-6, 2021, and in-person events on January 27-28, 2022, honoring Carl Lutz and Rescue in the Holocaust.

On March 30, 2021, we will celebrate Carl Lutz’s birthday and host virtual events showcasing the life and legacy of Carl Lutz and diplomatic rescue in the Holocaust. We will also host a 10 minute-long preview of the film “Dangerous Diplomacy” and hold a discussion with the producers and directors of this documentary.

On August 4-6, 2021 & January 27-28, 2022, we will showcase, through a variety of presentations, diplomatic rescue in the Holocaust, at indoor and outdoor locations in Philadelphia, including Mayor’s Reception Room in Philadelphia City Hall, and Philadelphia Holocaust Memorial Plaza. We are planning to host international experts and guests including Agnes Hirschi, Carl Lutz’ stepdaughter and president of the Carl Lutz Society. We plan on revisiting several of the films and speaker presentations at various universities and colleges in the Greater Philadelphia Area, amongst other activities that were rescheduled as a result of COVID-19.
