JE Podcast: Abigail Salisbury is the Only Jewish Woman in the PA House

Late in the fall legislative session, Abigail Salisbury was working tirelessly to move the Pennsylvania primary off the first full day of Passover. The only Jewish woman in the PA House, who represents District 34, which includes parts of Pittsburgh and its eastern suburbs, and her colleagues ultimately failed in their bipartisan endeavor.

But it became clear that Salisbury, who was elected in 2023, was willing to take the lead on a statewide Jewish issue.

On The Jewish Exponent Podcast, the 41-year-old talked about why that was important to her.

The conversation revealed that Salisbury is not your typical Jewish politician. Her father was Jewish and her mother Methodist. She grew closer to Judaism after her father’s untimely death when she was 13. And as a fair redhead, she often gets told that she “looks like a WASP.”
