The Board of Rabbis of Greater Philadelphia has issued a statement regarding recent tragedies:

“The Board of Rabbis of Greater Philadelphia stands in sorrow and solidarity with the grieving families in Orlando, Florida; Paris, France; and Tel Aviv, Israel. We send our sympathies to those around the world that mourn with them and pray for safety and healing of those targeted specifically as members of the LGBTQ community in Orlando and as Israelis in Tel Aviv.

“As we rabbis were engaged in study on the eve of Shavuot, the holiday where we celebrate the revelation of our core values through the receiving of Torah, a hate-filled gunman shattered the lives of over one hundred human beings in our country, each one a precious soul created in God’s image.

“As teachers of a tradition of compassion, hope and justice, we will not stand idly by as our neighbors bleed. We cry out for healing of all hate and homophobia that can lead to such an extreme act of violence.

“May the Almighty, who makes peace above, bring peace to the hearts of the victims, their families and all who share in this terrible sorrow.”
