The state House of Representatives issued a citation honoring Deanne Scherlis Comer, an Abington School District teacher, for her contributions to the creation and implementation of Holocaust education by the Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center during the 56th anniversary fundraising dinner and silent auction. The fundraiser raised $100,000. Comer has served a variety of Jewish organizations, such as the Pennsylvania Holocaust Education Council for 30 years, in addition to chairing the Upper Elementary Holocaust Education Curriculum Committee and serving as the coordinator for the First International Conference on Teaching the Lessons of the Holocaust. She also wrote and directed Voices of Holocaust History.
