Students at Princeton University rejected a referendum related to the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement on Wednesday, Jewish Insider reported.
The referendum asked the university to “immediately halt” using Caterpillar construction machinery on campus, “given the violent role that Caterpillar machinery has played in the mass demolition of Palestinian homes, the murder of Palestinians and other innocent people, and the promotion of the prison-industrial complex.”
Jewish Insider said 1,124 (44%) students supported the referendum, while 1,029 (40%) voted against it and 424 (16%) abstained. A majority of votes was needed for the referendum to pass.
Undergraduate Student Government President Mayu Takeuchi didn’t confirm the leaked results, saying the final results would be posted “no earlier than this Friday, April 15 at noon.”
A similar resolution failed in 2015, with 52.5% of participating students voted against Israeli divestment.
