June Robbins (née Rocklin), wife of the late Melvin Robbins, celebrated her 93rd birthday on Sept. 20 at Wesley Main Line in Media. She is the mother of seven, grandmother of 18 and great-grandmother of nine.
On Labor Day at the Chapel of the Four Chaplains at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, Robbins participated in an international bell ringing in honor of Rosie the Riveters. Robbins, who was a “Rosie” during World War II as a draftsman at the Philadelphia Navy Yard and a USO volunteer, is a member of the National Rosie the Riveter Association and “Thanks, Plain and Simple.” She was a guest speaker, as an honorary Tin Mint at Robostock in Oaks, a featured speaker at Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel and was honored recently in Washington, D.C., for her role as a Rosie.
She is active in the Senior Community Services Clowns and volunteers her time entertaining residents in the assisted living and dementia units at Wesley. She participated in the 2019 Delco Senior Games, where she won medals in each of her events. She participates in the Wesley drama club.
