Lauren and Jay Gordon of Toms River, N.J., announce the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Mary, to Ariel Joseph Small, son of Robin and David Small of Highland Park, Ill., and Bay Harbor, Mich.
Rachel and Ariel are both graduates of the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering, where they met. They reside in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, where Ariel is a second lieutenant with the 25th Infantry Division, U.S. Army at Schofield Barracks. Rachel is a ninth grade science teacher at Assets High School for students with learning disabilities.
Rachel is the granddaughter of Phyllis and Art Goldstein of Voorhees, N.J., and Gloria Paul and Marshall Gordon of Voorhees and Boynton Beach, Fla., and the late Elaine Gordon.
Ariel is the grandson of Nissah Mattenson of Highland Park, Ill., and the late Merle Mattenson and Beverly and Irvin Small of Nashville, Tenn.
A summer 2018 wedding in Bay Harbor is planned.
