Local rabbis Annie Lewis of Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel in Philadelphia and Peter Rigler of Temple Sholom in Broomall were among a contingent from the American Jewish World Service (AJWS) to meet with Pennsylvania Rep. Brendan Boyle and other members of Congress in Washington, D.C. Having recently returned from a trip to the Dominican Republic, they wanted to address concerns about proposed cuts in spending for U.S. foreign aid.

Representing the AJWS’ Global Justice Fellows, the rabbis and cantors in the delegation wanted to stress how critical they believe it is to continue funding to the Dominican Republic, particularly toward a goal of ending discrimination against Dominicans of Haitian descent and LGBT Dominicans.
