Women from across the world, including eight from the Philadelphia area, were participants in the Jewish Women’s Renaissance Project (JWRP) Leadership Conference in College Park, Md. The conference was held in collaboration with Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs.
The JWRP presented the Pamela Claman Leadership Award to Israeli feminist author Lihi Lapid and Rachel Fraenkel, mother of a slain Israeli teenager who became a national symbol of hope. The award goes to international role models whose actions and have significantly shaped or inspired the Jewish world.
Some 300 people from nine countries — the others were Australia, Cuba, Greece, Israel, Panama, Russia, Spain and South Africa — attended this year’s event. The Philadelphia contingent included Melanie Leiberman, Michelle Pasternak, Gevura Davis, Jaclyn Shweky, Estee Kopel, Irma Fralic, Elissa Bloom and Jen Willner.
