This year’s High Holiday Food Drive is aiming to collect 50,000 pounds of usable food to support households in need through the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Mitzvah Food Project. The project’s five pantries feed more than 1,900 families each month and that number is steadily rising. Mitzvah Food Project recipients are relying on community donations more than ever before.
Individuals and families are encouraged to donate healthy proteins that are kosher and have a current date:
  • Canned beans such as chickpeas and legumes (lower salt preferred)
  • Nut butters such as peanut butter and almond butter (lower salt preferred)
  • Canned fish such as tuna, salmon and sardines
Please do not donate bulk items or glass containers or any of the following foods, which are easily destroyed during the collection process: pasta, cereal, grains and crackers.
You can participate in one of three ways:
  • Take your donations to a participating school, synagogue or organization.
  • Bring your donations to one of the five Mitzvah Food Project locations.
  • Take your food directly to the SHARE Warehouse.
The High Holiday Food Drive is the Greater Philadelphia Jewish community’s largest coordinated food collection effort of the year. For more information including donation sites, please visit jewishphilly.org/fooddrive, or email foodproject@jfgp.org.
