On March 17, more than 100 women enjoyed the unique sounds of Bulletproof Stockings, a self-proclaimed “all-girl Chasidic alternative rock band” based in Brooklyn, at this year’s Pomegranate Event, hosted by the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Women’s Philanthropy at Green Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill. The quartet, which recently performed at World Café Live in Philadelphia, empowers female audiences through their bold ideas and sounds, which include vocals and drums, as well as piano, violin and cello. Bulletproof Stockings’ four members also graciously shared their unique experiences as Chasidic rock band performers with the evening’s guests.
The commitment and passion of Event Chairs Esther Kaplin and Rachel Steinberg ensured the success of the evening, which honored the generous women who make a contribution of $1,000 or more to the Jewish Federation’s Jewish Community Fund. Holly Nelson, Women’s Philanthropy President, welcomed everyone and introduced them to a JEVS Human Services client who explained how she has benefited from JEVS programming supported by the Jewish Federation. Additionally, Michelle Barrack, Women’s Philanthropy Campaign Chair, reinforced the importance of the women’s philanthropy. Barbara Ellick Jewelers and The Sweet Trading Company were sponsors of the event.
