For the first time, the Association of Steel Distributors’ “Steel Man of the Year” is a woman. Lisa Goldenberg, current president of the family-owned Delaware Steel Company of Pennsylvania, which was founded by her grandfather, will be honored for longtime contributions to the industry.
Goldenberg, who served as the ASD’s first woman president from 2012 to 2104, was instrumental in the creation of the ASD Scholarship for members’ children and helped launch the Future Leaders Forum. One of her goals was to incorporate ASD membership from different geographic locations, cultures or backgrounds.
She becomes the third member of her family — following the lead of her grandfather Bernard Brownstein, and father, Jerald Brownstein — to receive this award.
Ten-year-old Margalit Eisenstein will represent Philadelphia as one of 10 children chosen by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) to join the national PJ Our Way Design Team.
In its second year of existence, PJ Our Way — open for 9- to 11-year-olds —provides access to Jewish-themed chapter books and an interactive website in order to create content, including videos, reviews, blog postings and more. The children will work together to interview authors, participate in workshops and lead conversations about the books amongst their peers.
Made available through the Jewish Learning Venture of Philadelphia, PJ Our Way becomes the latest extension of PJ Library, which was originally designed for children 6 months through 8 years.
