The owner of Best Cake Kosher Bakery in the Overbrook Park section of the city is in critical condition after being shot in the face during a robbery at about 6 a.m. Friday.

The 56-year-old victim, Ziza Djordevic, was outside the back entrance of the bakery smoking a cigarette when two men approached and shot her, according to news reports from 6ABC and NBC 10. The attackers took her apron where she keeps her money.

The suspects fled the scene.

There had been an attempted robbery at the bakery, located on the 7500 block of Haverford Avenue, last week, according to Sam Lee, owner of City Line Deli, which is directly across the street.

Lee got in to work around 8 a.m. and said there were still cops on the scene.

Nobody knows yet who did it, he said. He added it’s important to “be careful.”

“It clearly was a setup robbery as far as we’re concerned. They clearly cased this out, knew what she did, and had familiarity with this particular business,” Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives said in 6ABC’s report.

Djordevic was able to fight off the attacker in the robbery last time. Police believe the same suspects are involved in this morning’s incident, according to the reports.

Despite her injury, Djordevic was able to dial 911 shortly after the attack and was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in University City, where she remains. The bullet became lodged in her spine, the reports said. She was still able to tell the police there were two suspects after they had arrived at the bakery.

This is a developing story.
