Young Leaders Celebrate Success

Renaissance Group members celebrated their outreach to nearly 1,000 young professionals during more than 30 programs over the past year at a recent networking event and leadership dinner.

Back in September, Danielle Weiss, chair of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Renaissance Group, challenged the group’s board to create “FOMO” — a fear of missing out.
 
“We are stronger together, so it is our job to make sure no one is missing out on being a part of our incredible community,” said Weiss, “and 926 individuals did not miss out this year.” Thanks to Weiss’s vision, more than 30 events connected nearly 1,000 young community members to the Jewish Federation and the local and global Jewish community during the 2014-15 program year. 
 
At two recent events, Renaissance Group members celebrated this success. On April 29, 100 Renaissance Group Ben-Gurion Society members came together for their Spring Networking Event at Boyds Philadelphia, which was hosted by Alex Gushner and chaired by Diana Eisner, Jeff Greco and Jason Mandel. The program featured guest speaker Jeff Raider, co-founder of Warby Parker and co-founder and co-CEO of Harry’s. The Ben-Gurion Society is a national donor recognition program for individuals ages 45 and under who give a minimum annual gift of $1,000 or more to the Jewish Federation’s annual campaign. 
 
“Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia involvement can take many shapes — it’s different for everyone,” said Eisner. “However, one common thread our volunteers share is a desire to connect to something beyond their everyday lives, while living their everyday lives.”
 
On May 4, more than 80 Renaissance Group members attended the annual Young Leadership Dinner. Participants included Renaissance Group Board members, Leadership Development Program participants, Israel360 May 2014 Couples Trip alumni, Rebuild House Captains and members of the Mitzvah Committee and National Young Leadership Cabinet. 
 
“Renaissance Group has provided us purpose and direction in our philanthropy,” said Liza Bresson, who, along with her husband, Justin, participated in the Israel360 program, which engages young leaders in the Jewish community through an Israel trip, as well as pre- and post-trip programming. “It provided us other avenues to be involved with the Jewish community. We became advocates for Israel and more aware of the current state of Israel. We will continue to support Israel and the community. We receive the same support back from the community through the relationships we’ve gained, the identity we found and, of course, the happy hours.”
