Calling All Job Seekers: Match Your Skills with Regional Employers

The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and JEVS Human Services will hold a free career expo on April 29.

Are you unemployed or underemployed in the Greater Philadelphia area? Then come to the Career Expo on Wednesday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Jewish Community Services Building, 2100 Arch St., in Philadelphia. This free event is co-sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and JEVS Human Services.
Job seekers can meet with regional employers in a variety of industries who are looking for qualified candidates. JEVS Human Services will offer one-on-one resume checkups. Plus, there will be three career workshops:
• “Handling Salary Negotiations” at 10:30 a.m.
• “Using LinkedIn as a Job-hunting Tool” at 11:30 a.m.
• “What Employers Are Looking For” employer panel at 12:45 p.m.
According to Peggy Truitt, director of JEVS’ Career Strategies Program, “Today’s job-search process is more competitive than ever. You need as many resources as possible at your fingertips. The expo is another resource to support community members in their search. It is an excellent way to make face-to-face contacts with employers and to practice interviewing techniques.”
Donna Freyman, Jewish Federation’s director of human resources, is pleased that the Jewish Federation will once again offer both space and staff resources to the expo. “It is our honor to partner with JEVS Human Services on this important community program for the third time,” she said.
This year more employers will be represented than ever before. They include: Allied Barton, Bayada Home Health Care, NDI Engineering, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, Pfizer, ProtoCall, the School District of Philadelphia, SugarHouse Casino and many others. Truitt says that all of the employers who will be at the expo are looking to hire for all kinds of positions.
The Career Expo is accessible by public transportation; several parking lots are conveniently located nearby. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. All pre-registrants will receive a free “How to Prepare for a Job Fair” checklist and be entered into a drawing for one of two free career-counseling sessions.
