Kohelet Defeats Barrack in Boys’ Varsity Basketball Showdown


The region's two biggest Jewish Day Schools square off for the first time this season.

In their first meeting of the 2014-2015 Basketball season, Greater Philadelphia's two largest Jewish Day Schools squared off in Boys' Varsity Basketball on Dec. 13.

The home team Kohelet Yeshiva took charge from the opening tip, jumping out to an early 9-3 lead.

Barrack then went on a small run of their own and cut the margin to one at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter is where Kohelet really blew the game open. Using stifling defense and some accurate three-point shooting, Kohelet outscored Barrack 13-0 in the period, going into the half up 23-9.

Despite their best efforts in the second half, Barrack was never able to cut the deficit to less than 10 points, with the final score reading 47-35, Kohelet.

Kohelet was led by co-captains Aaron Simmens,, who posted 14 points, and Erez Galfand, who had 13.

Elliot Bernstein was Barrack's leading scorer, tallying 15 points.
