Camper of the Week: A Relationship Builder

From eating pierogies to hanging out with his friends, this week's star camper is having a blast at Harlam.

This summer, the Exponent is profiling standout campers nominated by the directors of Jewish camps around the region. We also want to feature a selection of letters — “hello mudda, hello fadda” anyone? — sent home from local Jewish campers attending any overnight camp around the country. If you receive a letter from your camper that you would like to share with us, please email it to us.

Here is this week's standout camper:

Jon Williams, 14, Wayne, Pa.

Camp Harlam, Kunkletown, Pa.

Favorite camp activity:  Hanging out with my friends.

Favorite camp food: Pierogies.
Favorite camp moment so far: A tie between an activity based on our Camp K’ton program at Harlam for the children of staff and faculty (I got to pretend I was a toddler!) and arriving for the first time in K’far Noar’s village (where I live this summer).
Why did you choose to go to camp this summer and has it lived up to your expectations? I chose to be here because I love seeing all of my close friends from past summers, and also because camp is a great Jewish experience. It’s helped me to grow as a young adult — especially this summer — and I’m learning to really take care of myself. It’s definitely living up to my expectations as it’s such a huge part of my life and I couldn’t imagine my summer any place else!
His counselors say: Jon was chosen by the K’far Noar staff because he embodies what it means to be a Harlamite. He has gone above and beyond to build relationships, he is always smiling and excited to participate in our program, and it’s a pleasure to have him as part of the Harlam and K’far Noar families.
