What to Do Dec. 24-25

Take your pick of these events while others are celebrating Christmas.

There's lots going on this year to keep you entertained when others are celebrating Christmas. In addition to these listings, see our complete online calendar.

A Klezmer Christmas Eve
The Gershman Y hosts its inaugural Kung Pao Klezmer beginning at 6 p.m. The evening will feature Chinese cuisine courtesy of Chinatown stalwart Joy Tsin Lau, and the music of Klingon Klez, the Philly-based klezmer band that “brings klezmer from the future.”

Guffaws in the Garden State
Cherry Hill gets in on the Eve action with the Katz JCC’s annual Laughter and Lo Mein event, beginning at 6:30 p.m. This year’s iteration features two comedians: Penn alumnus Dan Naturman, who has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live and his own special on Comedy Central; and Johnny Lampert, a regular at the comedy clubs in New York City. A Chinese buffet is included in the evening, and babysitting will be available.

Some of Your Best Friends Will Be There
Spectrum Philly will host Oy to the World: A Queer Jews and Allies Party at Lucha Cartel, the new Mexican-influenced restaurant in Old City, beginning at 8 p.m. Spectrum, which is a partnership between The Collaborative, The Jewish Graduate Student Network, and Congregation Beth Ahavah, created to build a community for LGBTQ Jews, promises that the evening’s entertainment will include classic holiday songs like “Silver Kvells,” “The Christmas Schmaltz,” “Rockin' Around the Chanukah Bush” and more.

The Dumpling Dance
The MatzoBall returns to Center City’s G Lounge at 9 p.m. Now in its 27th year since originating in New York, the event will bring together hundreds of Jewish singles from around the Delaware Valley.

Even More to Do on the Eve
The second edition of Philadelphia’s Jewbilee, taking place at
9 p.m., is called, appropriately enough, Jewbilee-Twobilee. This year’s event will be held at Center City nightclub Rumor and will feature Philly’s own DJ Silva.
