Harold Hymovitz, 75, Boy Scout Leader and Volunteer

Harold ("Hal") Hymovitz, 75, a longtime Boy Scout leader who was known for his volunteer service, died July 24. He was a resident of Hatboro.

Hymovitz was active in Boy Scouting for most of his life, mainly as an assistant scoutmaster of Troop 185 (sponsored by Congregation Adath Jeshurun) and the head of the Kitchen Committee for the region's Jewish Committee on Scouting.

For decades he led six- to eight-week summer treks of Troop 185 all over the world, including the first trip by a U.S. Boy Scout troop to Israel in 1985.

Hymovitz was also active in the Montgomery County Association for the Blind and the VISOP Blind Veterans' Support Group. He did this volunteer service while overcoming his own visual disabilities.

A Korean war veteran, he spent almost two decades working for the Wyncote Academy as a resident student adviser, among other positions. He was also in the produce business during the 1950s with his father in North Philadelphia.

Hymovitz is survived by sister Dorothy Vogel; a niece and nephew; and many friends.
