Carol R.​ Simon, 93, Communications Pioneer



Carol R. Simon, 93, a communications professional who specialized in the arts, creative writing, public relations, and advertising and mineralogy, died March 6 at her home in Abington.

A graduate of Temple University, Simon served four-year terms as both president of the Philadelphia Chapter of Women in Communications Inc., and as a national vice president of the group.

The Philadelphia Chapter of WICI honored her with its first Lifetime Achievement Award.

She also served as director of the National Council of Women.

Simon was communications director for Artists Equity and the Philadelphia Mineralogy Society, and for many years was the owner and director of the Public Relations Institute for adult training in writing skills, policy-making methodology and idea development.

Simon was recognized in Who's Who in American Women, International Biography of Professional Women, and was appointed to the first Pennsylvania Status of Women Commission.

She is survived by sons Morton J. Simon Jr. and Lawrence T. Simon; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
