Estelle Cohen, Co-Owner of Maternity Shops, Dies at 8​6



Estelle Cohen, 86, co-owner of two maternity and baby shops, died Aug. 16 at Lankenau Hospital. The former Stella/Esther Elias, she was a resident of Haverford.

Cohen owned Dorebel's Maternity and Baby Shops in South Philadelphia and Mayfair, along with her husband, Bernard B. Cohen.

In 1945, Cohen organized the Tikvah Chapter of Pioneer Women and served as its first president. Pioneer Women changed their name to Na'Amat, and Cohen later served as president of the Philadelphia Council, Na'Amat.

She was active in the early years of Israel's struggle.

In 1986, she received the Israel Freedom Award from the State of Israel Women's Division for recognition of outstanding support for the economic development of Israel.

A member of Adath Shalom synagogue, Cohen was also a life member of Jewish Women International.

Cohen is survived by daughter Diana Krantz; son Melvin Cohen; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
