Terr​y M. German, 72, OB/GYN Who Delivered 3,000-Plus Babies


Terry M. German, 72, an obstetrician/gynecologist, died Nov. 17.

German was a graduate of Central High School, Ursinus College and Jefferson Medical College. Prior to his residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was chief resident of the Obstetrics Gynecology Service, he was a captain in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps.

For 35 years, German delivered more than 3,000 babies and performed countless surgeries. He was highly respected in the medical community by his colleagues and was published in numerous medical journals.

He was appointed assistant clinical professor in obstetrics and gynecology at Temple University School of Medicine.

After he retired from his medical practice, he became a medical director for Blue Cross of Philadelphia.

German was a writer of lyrics and an actor in the Famous Bed Pan Players of the Ex-Residents Society of Einstein, a voracious reader, a Philadelphia sports fan and afficionado of the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzles.

German is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Winitz German; daughters Julie German Evert and Mimi German; sister Mae Kurtz; brother Mickey German; and a grandson.
