Ann Hermine Brenner Ritt, 78, Longtime Patron of the Arts


Ann Hermine Brenner Ritt, 78, died Oct. 6. She was a resident of Scottsdale, Ariz., and formerly of Haverford.

An arts patron throughout her adult life, she funded scholarships to aspiring artists, and chaired numerous committees and advisory positions.

A native of the Philadelphia area, she maintained homes in Haverford and Scottsdale. She was a graduate of Upper Darby High School and Elmira College.

Ritt's business acumen and experience developed when she became chairman of the board of the W. A. Butler Company, headquartered in Dublin, Ohio. She assumed that role after the death of her husband and son. She drove the company's growth and led it to an ultimate merger within the distribution industry.

Ritt is survived by a daughter, Susanne C. Ritt Nichol; son Daniel M. Ritt; brother Joseph R. Brenner; three grandchildren; and numerous cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen A. Ritt Sr., and son Stephen A. Ritt Jr.
