Building a Foundation for Community Growth

Jewish Federation Real Estate — the affinity group commonly referred to by the acronym JFRE — has become a force for change in the Greater Philadelphia Jewish community. Last month, more than 200 JFRE members turned out for a power breakfast at the Pennsylvania Convention Center's $786 million expansion — the largest public-works project in the history of the Commonwealth.

Jewish Federation Real Estate chairman David Adelman introduced a panel of top-ranked business and legislative leaders, including Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter; Alan Greenberger, Deputy Mayor for planning and economic development; Joseph Zuritsky, CEO of the Parkway Corporation; and Peter Soens, partner of SSH Real Estate, the largest independent commercial real estate firm in the Philadelphia region.

Paul Levy, chief executive of the Center City District and executive director of the Philadelphia Development Corporation, moderated the panel addressing the impact of this project on Center City hospitality and retail-development opportunities. And Convention Center executive director Ahmeenah Young discussed plans for the new facility, which will provide 1 million square feet of usable space — the largest contiguous exhibition space in the northeastern United States.
