The Jewish community of Greater Philadelphia is passionate about the land and people of Israel. Six thousand of them demonstrated their passion through their spirited participation in Federation's recent Israel 63 Independence Day festivities on Penn's Landing in Philadelphia.
Music was the centerpiece of the celebration. A panel of celebrity judges crowned two champions — 17-year-old Danielle Lichter and 20-year-old Laura Warren — in the "Israel: A Song in Our Hearts" singing competition. Emcee Eddie Bruce set the stage for the afternoon's headline act — the dynamic Isramerica House Band.
Falafel and other ethnic favorites kept energy levels high, giving participants' ample energy to shop at the Mideast bazaar booths and browse the information tables staffed by numerous Jewish community organizations.
Israel 63 is made possible by the generosity of sponsors Blank Rome LLP, the Jewish Exponent and Shop Rite.
