Rabbi Margot Stein of Bala Cynwyd has, for the past five years, specialized in Bar and Bat Mitzvah tutoring for children with special needs.

Until now, she's done this mostly through word-of-mouth, but now she has launched a new website, www.booktobimah.com, and named her business On Eagle's Wings. The name is a reference to a quote from the book of Deuteronomy.

She said her hope is that the site will do more than bring potential clients. She said the site will function as an online forum for parents with special-needs children and serve as a resource for educators.

The site will also feature an ask-the-rabbi blog and will enable students or their teachers to download digital sound files of particular Torah portions and prayers.

Stein, who is the mother of an autistic child, said she realized that she can only help so many families directly and hopes the site can have a larger impact.

For children with dyslexia, autism or attention deficit disorder, deciphering an alphabet written backwards -- with dots for vowels -- can be quite a challenge, noted Stein. She has developed many of her own techniques for working with special-needs children and is currently working toward a certificate in Jewish special education at Hebrew College in Boston.
