Fifth-graders participated in a recent program at Tiferet Bet Israel in Blue Bell called "Torah Academy." As part of the Hebrew curriculum, this pilot extracurricular program began in January 2007, teaching fourth- and fifth-graders to read Torah from the ground up. They learned Torah trop -- the signs in the Chumash that tell the reader how each word should be "sung." The goal is to prepare a student not only to read Torah at their Bar or Bat Mitzvah, but to be able to read it as an ongoing mitzvah wherever they may be.
