On Sunday, Jan. 30, the Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy was the place to be for Jews of all ages, affiliations and ancestral homelands. Among the nearly 600 Super Sunday volunteers were members of three distinct Russian groups -- Davai, RAJE and Uru Akhim -- Israelis from HaKesher HaIsraeli and Netivot Sedot-Negev, Federation's Partnership 2000 community; college students from area Hillels; older adults from Martins Run, the Klein JCC and other senior organizations; rabbis and congregants from many area synagogues; Jewish day-school students; and others who wanted to rally community support for the 2011 Federation annual campaign.

While the daylong phone-a-thon raised more than $1 million for campaign-funded programs and initiatives that enhance and enrich the lives of Jews in Greater Philadelphia, in Israel and in the former Soviet Union, this impressive tally was only one indicator of the event's success. The entire building was abuzz with excitement, as the very young were entertained by "the Mad Scientist" and creative craft projects; older children filed news reports with the KYW News radio Kids Cast mobile studio; and people of all ages learned about the great work of area Jewish organizations who participated in the Super Sunday agency fair. Between the two phoning shifts, LimmudPhilly offered innovative children's and adult programming; and kosher food from Max & David's kept volunteers nourished throughout the day.

New this year were celebratory cocktail receptions for Federation's Affinity Groups, who turned out in strong numbers to handle the phones. Mazel Tov to Renaissance, JFRE (Jewish Federation Real Estate), Women's Philanthropy, Men's Roundtable and Cabinet, Health Care and Business and Professionals for helping to make a difference.

Super Sunday chairs Michele and Robert Levin, and Bryna and Fred Berman expressed their thanks to all who volunteered for demonstrating that we are indeed "One People, One Community, One Federation."
