Marvin E. Black

Can’t tell the forest for the trees? Never a problem for Marvin E. Black, longtime director of Pine Forest Camp, Lake Owego Camp and Camp Timber Tops. For reaching the top of his profession — which includes being an educator as well — Black was just inducted into Temple U.’s “Gallery of Success” for bringing “honor to the university by distinguishing himself in his career.” The 1950 grad, now 88, repped the university’s College of Health Professions and Social Work at the ceremony. … The Middle East Forum, a local think tank of international rep, certainly must think much of Daniel Doron, founder/director of the Israel Center for Social and Economic Progress, and writer Marilyn Stern to choose them as associate fellows, which is what they just did. … Hollywood and Vine? No, but close: Hollywood and the Parkway. That’s where a camera crew from Australia came to interview a quartet of residents of The Watermark at Logan Square as “Stars” of their upcoming docu, Jabbed/Love, Fear and Vaccines. Sharing memories of epidemics from their childhood were Marty Kesselman, Dorothy Roseman, Gloria Heller and Bob Sigmond. The docu is being prepped as an upcoming PBS two-hour film. … Smart choices! Philadelphia SmartCEO mag had no second thoughts about including these women and their companies for their choices of Philadelphia Brava Winners: Julia H. Klein, C.H. Briggs Company; Nana Goldberg, I. Goldberg Army & Navy; Charlene Schwartz, Solow Incorporated; and Debra S. Lacks, Wordsworth. And when it comes to the bottom line, who better to include as choices for the area’s top accountants than these? Herb Feinstein, Mitchell Gerstein, Rick Gitomer, Jeffrey Gitler, Murray N. Greenberg, Lori F. Reiner, Steven R. Rossman and Jay Weinstein. … Penn pals: Dr. Joseph Subotnik of the School of Arts & Sciences/U of P, has nabbed a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers for his work revolving around solar energy. Also, at Penn: Dr. Terri H. Lipman, a prof at the nursing school, is the first recipient of the Norma M. Lang Distinguished Lecture Award for Scholarly Practice, giving her lecture on Oct. 18 at the school. … He’s got “Game”: Rowan College of New Jersey alum Adam Chazen, 26, knows it’s not just HBO; it’s his life. He was one of the winners of an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Special Visual Effects” for his efforts with HBO’s Game of Thrones. … Cease-fire in place: Attorney Shira Goodman, for the past decade deputy director of Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts, is the new exec director of CeaseFirePA, a statewide org dedicated to reducing gun violence. Goodman also serves as a board member of the Jewish Publishing Group, which includes the Jewish Exponent. … Sibling revelry! That’s what was probably going on in the home of Nina and Fred Miller, celebrating Emmys won by their two sons; Stuart Miller, supervising producer, The Daily Show With Jon Stewart; and Jeffrey Miller, producer, On the Record With Greta Van Susteren. It is, indeed, Miller time!
