Keneseth Israel, founded in March 1847, was the fourth congregation to be established by the expanding Jewish community of Philadelphia. Orthodox in observance at first, KI adopted reform in 1855, and thus became the first progressive congregation

Special Israel Shabbat Service

This special service recognizes 65 years of the modern state of Israel. Shir KI, our adult choir, will present music drawn from different periods in the 65 year history of the State of Israel. Alex Kress, a member of our congregation, and a first year rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College -Jewish Institute of Religion, currently studying in Jerusalem, will deliver a virtual d'var torah.
