KI Saturday Morning Rabbi’s Series:  Summer 2013

Please join us for three special summer presentations at KI. As part of Saturday Morning services,   Rabbi Sussman will give a series of three talks on Jewish views of  God, the question of evil and the persistence of anti-semitism.  All services are open to the public and free of charge.

“Job and the Question of Evil.”
Saturday, July 20
10:30 am.
The Biblical book of Job addresses what many people think is the central question of
human existence:  why do the righteous suffer?  Come and learn about how ancient Israel
and subsequent generations of Jewish scholars dealt with this deep and vexing problem.

“God:  A Biography.”
Saturday,  August 17
10:30 am
Who is the God of the Torah? Where does the idea of God come from? How do Israelite
views of God compare to other traditions’ views? Does God change over time?  Come
and hear a historical presentation on some of Judaism’s most important theological
questions and, of course, bring your own questions too.

“Hath Not a Jew Eyes: The Shadow of Shylock.”
Saturday,  August 24
10:30 am
What are the origins of anti-Semitism? Why does it persist? How did Shylock become an
archetype of an evil Jew?”  Why did the Shylock tradition continue? These questions as
well as a look of Shylock in America will be the content of the third and final installment
of Rabbi Sussman’s 2013 Summer Shabbat Series.
