On Thursday, Nov. 4, InterFaithways will kick off their Family Shabbat Weekends with a special movie night at the Hiway Theatre in Jenkintown. The evening will feature a wine-and-cheese reception, to be followed by a screening of "From Woody Allen to Ben Stiller: Interfaith Relationships Portrayed in Film," a montage of clips from comedies and dramas featuring interfaith couples.
Following the film, local screenwriter and film professor David J. Greenberg will moderate a panel of local rabbis and interfaith couples, who will share their responses to the onscreen images. The program is sponsored by Goldsteins' Rosenberg's Raphael-Sacks Funeral Home.
InterFaithways Family Shabbat Weekends, slated for Nov. 5 to Nov. 7 and Nov. 12 to Nov. 14, will feature special programming at more than 50 congregations in the Delaware Valley, as well as several community events designed for interfaith families sponsored by InterFaithways.
Throughout the weekend, each participating congregation chooses an activity -- or series of activities -- to deepen the relationship between intermarried families and the shul.
InterFaithways, founded in 1999 as a program of Jewish Family and Children's Service of Greater Philadelphia, became an independent organization in September 2007. It is the only local organization dedicated to welcoming interfaith families to the Jewish community
Throughout the past decade, it has helped create innovative programming and develop resources, and has partnered with national outreach institutions to bring those resources into this community.
Organization staff also provides training and consultation to rabbis, educators and other Jewish professionals.
