Jasner was a past president of the Professional Basketball Writers Association and the Philadelphia College Basketball Writers Association. He also was honored as the Pennsylvania Sports Writer of the Year for 1999 and, in 2001, received a lifetime achievement award from the Professional Basketball Writers Association.
He was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame on Nov. 11.
He graduated from Temple University, and worked for newspapers in the suburbs and for the Trentonian before joining the Daily News in 1972.
He is survived by a son, Andrew Jasner, and two grandchildren. His wife, the former Susan Marks, died in 2006.
