Gigi and Richard Baum of Hatfield, and Veronica and Jon Schmerling of Pittsburgh announce the engagement of their children, Ariel Diana Baum and Bruce Roy Schmerling.

Ariel, a graduate of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in hospitality management. She is currently working in the restaurant business.

Bruce, a graduate of Penn State University, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in criminology. He is working in finance at Duquesne Fund Services.

Ariel is the granddaughter of the late Ilse and Arthur Baum, and the late Elsie and Louis Goldberg. Bruce is the grandson of Sue Friedman and the late Daniel Schmerling, and Agnes Rocher and the late George Rocher.

The couple, who lives in Pittsburgh, is planning a September wedding in Philadelphia.
