There’s no time like the present to sign up for the Israel 65 Parade and Festival scheduled for Sunday, May 19, in Philadelphia. Join Federation and its community partners for a gala celebration of Israel Independence Day.
Design a float or march with your synagogue, school, camp or other community organization and show your pride in our Jewish homeland. We’ll line up at Eakins Oval by the Philadelphia Museum of Art at 10:30 a.m. and strut our stuff alongside the Avalon String Band, Stars of David Bikers, the Philadelphia Fife and Drum Corps, and other luminaries, to the festival site — the spacious and climate-controlled Pennsylvania Convention Center.
This is the first time that this community event will be staged indoors, and record crowds are anticipated.
From noon to 4 p.m. there will be fabulous Israeli food, entertainment, arts, crafts, dancing and shopping. Visit an authentic Bedouin tent, learn Krav Maga, the martial arts technique used by the Israel Defense Forces, celebrate Israel’s achievements in science and technology, create a giant Israeli flag out of K’NEX and savor succulent ethnic fare using recipes from a brand new cookbook created by local women in conjunction with Philadelphia’s Partnership 2Gether communities of Netivot and Sedot Negev in Israel.
These are just a few of the special highlights planned to mark Israel’s special milestone.
