From Aug. 14 through 19, 1,200 Jewish athletes from across the United States, Panama, Great Britain, Mexico, Venezuela, Israel and Canada will be visiting the Greater Philadelphia area to participate in the JCC Maccabi Games.
Area individuals and families will serve as host families to these athletic ambassadors, chauffeuring them to ceremonies and competitions, providing them with meals and home hospitality and sharing with them some of their favorite arts, cultural and shopping destinations.
Competition organizers are still in need of 500 additional hosts. Hosts must live within a 40-minute drive of the Kaiserman JCC in Wynnewood. Jewish families, couples and single adults are welcome.
Volunteers are also needed to be greeters, assist at the opening ceremony, work at athletic venues and chaperone evening social events.
"This prestigious international competition is an opportunity for our Jewish community to show the world that we are welcoming and hospitable," said Federation President Leonard Barrack.
