William Nerenberg, 92, who operated a chain of local shoe stores for more than 50 years, died Dec. 9.
A native Philadelphian, Nerenberg worked at and then ran his father's South Street store, Belle Shoes. The business eventually moved to the Northeast, where he resided with his family.
An avid fisherman who went by the name of "Flounder Bill," Nerenberg spent much of his summers and a large part of his retirement in Atlantic City, N.J. He was also a charter member of the Ventnor, N.J., pier.
Nerenberg and his 90-year-old wife, Evelyn, were profiled in the Sept. 15 Jewish Exponent on having been married for 70 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sondra Jaffe and Barbara Lawrence; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
