Ron and Mindy Rappaport of New Hope, and Ronald and Suzanne Smart of Morgantown, W.V., announce the engagement of their children, Gillian Faye Rappaport and Christopher John Smart.

Gillian is a senior at the University of Vermont, majoring in elementary education. She is the captain of the UVM Division One softball team.

Chris is a graduate of UVM, a top student-athlete and three-time member of the ECACHL All-Academic Team. He is working toward a master's degree in nutrition and food sciences at UVM.

The couple is planning a September wedding in Vermont.
