United States Congregation Rodeph Shalom
January 18, 2013 6:00 PM
Congregation Rodeph Shalom will honor Martin Luther King, Jr. at a 6 p.m. interfaith Shabbat service.
Rev. Dr. Mark Tyler, congregants and the choir from the Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church will join in honoring Dr. King’s legacy with the voices of the combined choirs and an inspirational service.
Both Congregation Rodeph Shalom and the Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church (founded by Bishop Richard Allen) have been spiritual and community forces in Philadelphia since the late 1700s. Today, the congregations share their commitment to Philadelphians Organized to Witness, Empower & Rebuild (P.O.W.E.R.) working to strengthen relationships among people of all races, faiths, income levels and neighborhoods — lines which have historically kept Philadelphians divided.
Martin Luther King, Jr’s legacy of leadership continues to inspire and hearten as we strive to turn his dream of equality into our reality. These efforts will be highlighted at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Shabbat Service.
Free and open to the community.
