Richard Stup of Elkins Park and Sharlene Kalendar of Wyncote announce the engagement of their daughter Emmy (Michele) Stup to Ben Block, son of Steve and Michele Block of Baltimore, Md.
Emmy is a graduate of Rutgers University. After spending time living in Europe and Israel, Emmy settled in Washington, D.C., where she was an AVODAH service corps fellow at Women Empowered Against Violence. She currently serves as the after-school programs manager at Metro TeenAIDS.
Ben is a graduate of the University of Maryland. He recently served as a Fulbright Fellow in the Peruvian Amazon and currently works as a program officer at the Verified Carbon Standard.
Bubbies Claire B. Stup and Edith Ordman look forward to celebrating this simcha.
Joining the couple's excitement are siblings Ira Stup, Hannah Stup, Rachel Block-Stewart, and Cameron Stewart.
Emmy is the granddaughter of the late Max and Shirley Kalender, and the late Irwin B. Stup. Ben is the grandson of the late William Ordman, and the late Stanley and Naomi Block.
The couple, who began their relationship at a Martin Luther King Jr. memorial service in Washington, D.C., share a commitment to social justice as well as passions for homemade pizza and urban hiking.
The couple is planning an October wedding.
