Claire H. Liachowitz, 82, former associate professor and chief of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, died March 15.
Born in Mahanoy City, Pa., she received three degrees from Bryn Mawr College over a 34-year span beginning in 1952, including her doctorate in political science in 1986.
She got her medical degree in 1956 from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University.
She was an assistant professor at Temple University Hospital from 1962-1964.
In 1988, Liachowitz wrote Disability as a Social Construct: Legislative Roots.
Among her personal delights were playing bridge with her friends, spending time with her family and rooting on the Phillies.
She is survived by a sister, Lois Ann Spoont; nephews, grandnephews and a grandniece.
