Marc H. Shames, an avid runner and synagogue president, died of pancreatic cancer, at home in Broomall, on March 20.
He spent 61 years living in Broomall, graduating, along with his wife of 38 years, Dianne (nee Belitsky), from Marple Newtown Senior High.
A 1974 graduate of Drexel University, earning a degree in business administration, Shames was a member of the board of Martins Run; past president of Beth El-Ner Tamid Congregation; and a past recipient of Brith Sholom’s Wolfe Baron Lodge Man of the Year Award.
The Jewish National Fund honored both him and his wife.
Shames was an avid runner, participating in seven halfmarathons as well as dozens of runs; running three miles every day before going to the gym and working out in the morning and swimming laps in the pool at the end of each day.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Amanda; two sons, Adam and Jonathan; and two grandchildren.
