Alexander Willis, 95, died Nov. 7 at Lankenau Hospital. He was a resident at the Green Hill Apartments in Wynnewood.
Willis received a mayor's full-tuition scholarship to the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania from which he graduated in 1933 with a bachelor's degree. He also earned a master's degree in education from Penn's Graduate School of Education in 1939.
An educator, Willis was formerly a math and bookkeeping teacher with the School District of Philadelphia. He taught at South Philadelphia High School for 44 years. He also was a CPA.
He was an active member of Adath Israel. As a past president of Temple Israel of Wynnefield, he facilitated its merger with Temple Adath Israel of Merion.
Willis is survived by his wife, the former Rosaline Dortort; daughters Beverly Emanuel and Anita Robinson; son Arnold Willis; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
