Seymour Ledis, 85, a retired pediatrician who maintained a practice in Levittown for more than four decades, died April 21 in Boynton Beach, Fla. He was formerly of Levittown.
Ledis, who established his practice in 1953, headed Lower Bucks Hospital's pediatric department for 17 years. He also was a staff member at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
He retired in 1994 and moved to Palm Beach County, Fla.
Ledis grew up in Strawberry Mansion and graduated first in his class at Central High School. He attended Temple and Yale universities, and earned a medical degree from Temple. After interning at the former Jewish Hospital in Philadelphia, he completed pediatric residencies at the University of Chicago Medical Center, Philadelphia General Hospital and St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.
Ledis was a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Phi Delta Epsilon medical fraternity and Physicians for Social Responsibility.
A veteran of the Korean war, he served in the Air Force as a medical officer in California.
Ledis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruthe Greenberg Ledis; daughter Nina Cannon; son Evan Ledis; and five grandchildren.
